Interior and Exterior Maintenance

Follow these do-it-yourself maintenance tips to help avoid foundation problems.

Exterior

• Keep all grading around building pitched away with 2" per 10 feet.
• Clean gutters and keep Downspout extensions at least 5 feet from building.
• Assure that all concrete surface areas and driveways are pitched away.
• Keep downspouts clear and in operating condition.

• Maintain proper grading because it is essential for draining water as quickly as possible.

Interior

• Check sump pump for proper operation and settings.
• Keep Palmer Valve open and clear at all times for proper draintile operation.
• Test that sewer lateral to street is open and clear of debris.
• During periods of high humidity, May to December,
  be sure to run your basement dehumidifier on the highest setting, 24 hours a day.
